Alice & António: a vineyard wedding at home in Celorico de Basto

Alice and António said yes at home, on a sunny September day overlooking Celorico de Basto, in northern Portugal. A hundred guests, one long table among the vines and, from the very first meeting, one clear idea: they wanted patterns. Lots of patterns.

A couple with their own ideas

Young, full of energy and with ideas of their own, Alice and António did not want a wedding like any other. We brought that energy in through colour: pink, orange and blue florals, red and white striped parasols, and stationery full of patterns, from the seating plan to the place cards.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place in the garden of the house, with the mountains of Celorico de Basto in the background. A flower-lined aisle led to the altar, and the parasols gave guests shade and colour on a warm September day. An intimate ceremony, surrounded by the people they love most.

One long table among the vines

For the dinner we chose simplicity: a single long table set up in the vineyard of the house, with string lights above and flowers all along it. Guests shared the food and, more importantly, the couple's love, all at the same table.

As night fell, the table lit up with string lights and candles, and a string quartet played surrounded by candlelight.

Pink Floyd and a tower of pastéis de nata

There was no traditional cake. Instead, the couple cut a tower of pastéis de nata, the Portuguese custard tarts, to Pink Floyd, Alice's favourite band. Right after, the dance floor opened under the mirror ball and the party began.

Getting married at home: what changes

A wedding at home gives you enormous freedom, but it needs far more logistics than an event venue. At Alice and António's home we handled the marquee and all the rental (tables, chairs, tableware and lighting), the set-up and take-down, and the coordination of every supplier, in a space that was never designed to host 100 guests.

We plan weddings across northern Portugal. See how we work on our Porto wedding planner page.

What we did

Planning and coordination, design and art direction (florals, patterns, stationery and parasols), entertainment, and all the marquee and rental logistics.
